Adam, Founder of Slab Culture

Hey, I'm Adam

Meet the Maker

My journey began in carpentry at the age of 17, giving me a solid foundation in structure and design. Seven years ago, I launched Slab Culture out of a small shed here in Wodonga with a singular focus: mastering GFRC (Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete).

In the early days, we crafted polished concrete benchtops for local builders and architects, tackling everything from indoor kitchens to fireplace surrounds. But we noticed a distinct shift — our customers wanted to entertain outside, and they needed a durable, high-quality solution to do it.

That demand shaped who we are today. While GFRC concrete remains our core and passion, we've evolved to manufacture complete outdoor kitchens — cabinetry, appliances and benchtops included. Whether we're installing it for you or supporting your DIY project, we're proud to bring premium outdoor living to homes across Victoria, NSW and beyond.

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions about your investment
1

What makes your outdoor kitchens 100% waterproof?

Unlike standard modular kitchens that use particleboard or materials that swell when wet, our cabinetry is engineered specifically for the outdoors. It is 100% waterproof, meaning it will never rot, warp, or rust—even if left completely exposed to the rain.

2

Will you come to my house and install?

Yes, we have an install team who work locally to Albury and surrounding areas.

3

Can You Custom Design to Fit my Space?

Yes, we can customise to suit and fit your space perfectly.

4

How do I maintain the polished GFRC concrete benchtop?

Our GFRC concrete comes pre-sealed with a food-grade penetrating sealer and a ceramic coating for maximum stain and scratch resistance. For daily cleaning, warm soapy water is all you need. We recommend a simple re-sealing every 5–7 years to keep it looking showroom-fresh.

5

What is GFRC and why do you use it for Outdoor Kitchen Benchtops?

GFRC stands for Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete. It gives you the beautiful, artisanal look of solid concrete but is significantly lighter, stronger, and highly resistant to cracking. Every benchtop is hand-poured, polished, and sealed to be food-safe and stain-resistant.

6

What are the cupboards made from?

Cabinex - we use PVC whiteboard panels combined with black aluminium extrusion on the frames - a modern, rustproof combination that's built to last.

7

Will the kitchen fade in the harsh Australian sun?

No. Our cabinetry finishes and concrete sealers are highly UV-resistant. They are specifically tested to withstand the extreme Australian elements, ensuring your kitchen looks stunning for years without fading or peeling.

8

Can I install this myself (DIY), or do I need a builder?

You can absolutely do it yourself. Our modular systems are designed for the "moderate DIYer" and arrive pre-assembled or flat-packed with detailed video guides. If you are in the Albury-Wodonga/Riverina region, we offer a full white-glove installation service where our team installs your kitchen in just 4–6 hours.

9

We have looked at kits from retail shops, what's the difference in yours?

We don't offer standard cookie cutter designs - we custom make and design everything to suit and fit your alfresco and add real value to your home. Our benchtops are custom hand made and bespoke, our cupboards and doors are each made to order.

10

What's the lead time once I order?

We can have this ready to install in 4 weeks.

11

Can I use my own BBQ, or do I have to buy yours?

You can use your own! We can custom-fabricate the cabinetry and benchtop cut-outs to fit almost any drop-in BBQ or fridge model. Just provide us with the make and model specifications during the design phase. Alternatively, we offer a range of premium BBQs (like Artusi, Weber, and Beefeater) if you want a complete package.

12

How does the "Free 3D Design" process work?

It's simple. Send us a photo and rough measurements of your space. Within 7 days, we will provide a custom 3D concept and a fixed-price quote so you can see exactly how the kitchen will look in your backyard before you spend a cent. This removes the guesswork.
